CAR Renting a car can be intimidating for many travelers. If you do decide to rent a car and feel comfortable driving in Costa Rica, you will experience the best views that Costa Rica has to offer. You can travel at your own pace, sightseeing along the way. (You will also be able to see the views from the bus, however, it just isn’t quite the same.)
Take highway 27 from San Jose to Ferry Niveria Tambor, in Puntarenas. HERE is more information and current schedules for the Ferry. Puntarenas. You can purchase your ferry ticket once you get to the dock or online using QuickPayCR. There will be an ferry official to give you a temporary ticket for your car. You then take this to the ticket counter to purchase your tickets to board the ferry. On the other side of the Ferry, follow signs to Cobano and then to Montezuma. UPDATE- If you go to the website linked above you may purchase your ticket online, up to two hours from ferry departure time.
NOTE: If you have a smartphone, getting an internet chip from kolbi while you are in the airport is recommended. You can use google maps as a GPS in Costa Rica. Some of the car rental companies can also provide wifi in the car.
BUS There are two bus options. Both options will get you here in about the same amount of time. It takes about five and a half hours to get here.
The simpler of the two options is to take the direct bus. This bus leaves from the San Jose Bus Terminal 7 -10 at 6 am and 2 pm. If you ask any taxi driver to take you to this bus station bus station, they will know where it is located. You can purchase tickets at the terminal. They also have a website to check out HERE. The ticket is about $15 and includes the ferry fee. The bus will board the ferry with you and take you all the way to Montezuma. The other option is to take a bus to Puntarenas, which departs every 30 minutes from the Puntanrenas Bus Terminal. You can ask any taxi driver to take you there once you are in San Jose. Once you arrive in Puntarenas, you must take a taxi or walk to the ferry port, which is several blocks from the bus stop. You will want to find the ferry that goes to Paquera. Purchase your ferry ticket at the port in Puntarenas. When exiting the ferry, there will be a bus waiting that says Montezuma. Board this bus, and you will arrive in Montezuma after several short stops and longer stop in Cobano. After getting off the ferry, it takes about two hours to get to Montezuma by bus.

Do you a pool?

Is there an ATM in Montezuma?
No, there is no longer an ATM in Montezuma. Most restaurants have been accepting credit cards since ATMs were removed. We recommend contacting your bank before you leave and ensuring they know you will be traveling. We accept cash and Credit Cards.
Do I need to make a reservation?
We suggest that you make a reservation if you are confident of the dates that you would like to stay with us. We ask that you please send us an email if you need to change or cancel.
Is the water drinkable?
We provide guests with a filtered water refill station. Cooking and brushing your teeth with the tap water is just fine.
How far is the hostel from the local bus stop?
We are very close to the Montezuma bus stop. If you travel by bus from Cobano, you can ask them to stop at Luz en el Cielo. We are located just before town and the bus driver will most likely be happy to drop you here. If you do get off at the Montezuma bus stop, walk back through town and up the main road towards Cobano. We are located 50 meters from Montezuma center.
Is there a grocery store near by?
Yes. Montezuma has two grocery stores where you can purchase all of the essentials. There is a vegetable and fruit stand as well.
What do you serve for breakfast?
We service a traditional breakfast with eggs, gallo pinto, freshly baked bread, and fruit, served to order from 8-10 am. You will find Sandra and Ana in the kitchen ready to serve you! Coffee is fresh and hot around 7:30 a.m. and is available all day.
Are there laundry facilities at Luz en el Cielo?
We do not offer laundry service. We can recommend you take it to several places in town.
What should I pack?
Pack for hot and humid weather. For men: shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts. For the ladies: sundresses, shorts and tank tops. We recommend that you bring one pair of shoes or sandals that you can wear for hiking. We recommend insect repellent, an umbrella, and sunscreen.
