Directions to Luz en el Cielo
We are located in Montezuma, Costa Rica.
From San Jose:
By Car– Renting a car can be intimidating for many travelers. If you do decide to rent a car and feel comfortable driving in Costa Rica, you will experience the best views that Costa Rica has to offer. (You will also be able to see the views from the bus, however it just isn’t quite the same.)
By bus– There are two bus options. Both options will get you here in about the same amount of time. It takes about five and a half hours to get here.
The simpler of the two options is to take the direct bus. This bus leaves from the San Jose Coca-Cola bus station at 6am and 2pm. If you ask any taxi driver to take you to Coca-Cola bus station, they will know where it is located. You can purchase tickets in the terminal. The ticket is about $12 and includes the ferry fee. The bus will board the ferry with you and take you all the way to Montezuma.
The other option is to take a bus to Puntarenas, which departs every 30 minutes from the Puntanrenas Bus Terminal. You can ask any taxi driver to take you there. Once you arrive in Puntarenas, you must take a taxi or walk to the ferry port, which is several blocks from the bus stop. You will want to find the ferry that goes to Paquera. Purchase your ferry ticket at the port in Puntarenas. After the ferry, there will be a bus waiting that says Montezuma. Board this bus, and you will arrive in Montezuma after several short stops and longer stop in Cobano. It takes about two hours to get to Montezuma after getting off the ferry.

Activities
In Montezuma you can get a taste of the best activities in Costa Rica. Whether you enjoy lying on the beach, jumping off waterfalls, or hiking in the jungle, your stay in Montezuma can be as relaxing or as adventurous as you choose.
The nearby waterfalls are a huge attraction in Montezuma. They are a short walk from town and provide you with an entire days worth of activity. If you don’t want to brave the jungle paths yourself, we offer waterfall tours from Luz.
For those who are coming to visit the beach, there are many beaches within walking distance of Luz en el Cielo. Surfing is also a big activity in Montezuma. There are several great surf breaks within walking distance, as well as some of the most talented surf instructors who offer lessons. Surf board rentals are also available.
Nightlife
Despite being a small town, Montezuma has great nightlife. From spontaneous street performances, to live entertainment in the bar. There is always something going on.

FAQs
Is there an ATM in Montezuma?
Yes there is an ATM in Montezuma. Most ATM cards will work here. Check with your bank before you leave and make sure they know that you will be traveling.
Do I need to make a reservation?
We would suggest that you make a reservation if you are certain of the dates that you would like to stay with us. We ask that you please call to let us know if you need to cancel.
Is the water drinkable?
This question is tricky. It depends. Many of our guests drink the water form the tap, and do not have a problem. Some guests prefer to play it safe and buy bottled water at the market.
How far is the hostel from the local bus stop?
We are very close to the Montezuma bus stop. If you are traveling by bus from Cobano, you can ask them to stop at Luz en el Cielo. We are located just before town and the bus driver will most likely be happy to drop you here. If you do get off at the Montezuma bus stop, walk back through town and up the main road towards Cobano. We are located 50 meters from Montezuma center.
Is there a grocery store near by?
Yes. Montezuma has two grocery stores where you can purchase all of the essentials.
What do you serve for breakfast?
Each morning we offer something different — anything from gallo pinto to French toast. We always serve a variety of cereals, bananas and coffee.
Are there laundry facilities at Luz en el Cielo?
We offer a laundry service. It costs 3000 colones per load.
What should I pack?
Pack for hot and humid weather. For men: shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts. For the ladies: sundresses, shorts and tank-tops. We recommend that you bring one pair of shoes or sandals that you can wear for hiking. We recommend insect repellent, an umbrella, and sunscreen.
